Ian Gregory, the founder of the Sidmouth Toy & Model Museum which opened in the town in 2020, was elected chairman of the Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce at their recent Annual General Meeting. Ian responded by thanking the chamber members for placing their trust in him and noting that while the role was a great privilege it also came with great responsibility.
Ian went on to comment that in his view the Chamber was all about representing its members. He stated, “we are a membership organisation and everything that we do should be driven by our membership to develop and improve business opportunities.” He noted that we live in difficult economic times and that now more than ever we all need to work together to succeed.
Ian wants to encourage members to interact more with the chamber executive committee and he will also be launching a campaign to directly contact all members to ascertain their views. Ian believes that strength lies in numbers and the more members the chamber represents the louder our collective voice will be. The chamber has access to Sidmouth Town Council Committees and has the opportunity to present member concerns to those who have the power to make changes in the town. He recognises that there is a need for the chamber to better communicate with its members and the wider community and plans to put in place processes to do this. He promised more details on this later.
