Next Meeting - Wednesday 14th September at 14 Miles East
What a fabulous bank holiday weekend?! Sidmouth was awash with red, white and blue, bunting and flags glory. To get the double bank holiday started, over 900 people sat down to enjoy their party food, whilst being entertained by the wonderful Sidmouth Town Band and Val Howells. The sun shone down and visitors to the town mingled amongst the partygoers and a perfect start to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, such a momentous day in our history.
Our sincere thanks go to not only those that supported the event by attending but also to those who spent the day in the Town setting and clearing up after the Street Party, without the team of wonderful volunteers from the local businesses, this event simply would not be possible.
We have been contacted by a number of businesess recently, regarding the new car parking charges that were introduced by EDDC on the 25th April, telling us about the impact that these increased charges are having on trade/business.
As a Chamber we ask that you contact your local EDDC Councillor, which is Cathy Gardner
The Chamber of Commerce opposed the 100% price hike, as soon as we became aware, and made representation to EDDC at cabinet meetings along with organising an petition, Sadly to no avail. However EDDC did say they would review the car parking charges later in the year following the summer period based upon the usual financial monitoring.
Plans are now well under way for the Queens Platinum Jubilee Street Party and the sub committee have started to deliver the flyers to all businesses in town. Please help us promote this wonderful community event by displaying the posters.
Tickets go on sale on Saturday 23rd April from 10am outside Anchor. Tables cost £36.00 for upto 6 people. On the day, remember to bring along your own chairs and picnic or support the local eateries, many who provide take away food. Do join us for an afternoon of celebrations and music provided by Sidmouth Town Band and Val Howells along with hits from Data Disco.
The Street Party itself takes place on Thursday 2nd June in the Market Square and all roads leading off the square will be closed to traffic, you will still be able to access the businesses.
Any remaining tickets will be sale from Sidsoft in Church Street upto till 26th May.
*Please note that road closures will be in place from 1pm till 8pm on Thursday 2nd June for New Street, Church Street and Old Fore Street. No access will be possible.
Thank you to all those that supported the Chamber's petition to try to stop EDDC from the car parking price hikes which have now sadly now come into effect. EDDC have decided the petition does not meet the threshold for council debate. However we welcome that a "commitment to look at the position to car parking charges later in the year following the summer period based upon the usual financial monitoring".
Remember that Residents are welcome to purchase parking permits from EDDC to help reduce the costs of parking and EDDC made a special exemption to Roxburgh Car Park which will be £1.50 per hour rather than £2.00
